Living Places is an environmental consultancy that works collaboratively to advance the development, design, funding and delivery of community-focused, place-based models for a just, net-zero transition.
Living Places will provide a detailed roadmap to clients who wish to pursue net-zero objectives, primarily in the area of retrofitting domestic housing.
A large portion of UK housing stock is not fit for the present or the future. It is also a major source of carbon emissions, adversely impacting the climate for all.
In the current climate, improving the energy efficiency – and thereby the comfort and quality of life – of homes is something that largely belongs to either those with the resources to do it (finance, time, technical knowledge) or those who qualify for government assistance which covers only a small proportion of the homes in the UK.
Working on the neighbourhood scale brings people together, builds social resilience and mutual understanding and develops the skills and capacities necessary to deal with the much larger climate challenges that are rapidly approaching.
Funding from Postcode Innovation Trust, thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery, was awarded to fund the start-up costs of the consultancy.
